My 15 favorite makeup finds under $15

Megan CrevierComment
best beauty products for cheep drugstore

I've found myself purchasing more and more drugstore products lately. Mainly because I keep finding amazing products that get the job done at a fraction of the price!  These products have been my favorite finds that I use almost every day - they've become my must-haves and they're all under $15!

Maybelline Master Prime:
This primer really feels nice on the skin and does a great job minimizing my pores. I find myself grabbing this almost as much as my Benefit Pore-fessional! (gasp!) Shop.

Milani Conceal & Perfect Foundation
The coverage from this stuff is SERIOUS. With a small amount of product I get a pretty flawless looking perfection without looking cakey - and I have a lot of freckles. Shop.

NYX Color Corrector
I love using the green shade in this palette to correct redness under my eyes, around my nose, and to help hide any pimples. Shop.

Maybelline Better Skin Concealer
On my foundation-free days, I use this concealer under my eyes and in my t-zone - it give awesome but breathable coverage, and 'better-skin' is a perfectly fitting name because it really does just make your skin look, well, better. Shop

Maybelline Age Rewind Brightener
This is the perfect product for brightening the under eyes. I put a dot on the darkest spots under my eyes underneath concealer and it does a great job offering a brighter looking eye. Shop

NYX Stay Matte Not Flat Power Foundation
I'll use this alone or to set my foundation/concealer. It offers great coverage that isn't cakey and helps prevent shine if you're oily - my type of product. I use this every single day without fail. Even if I set my face with a translucent powder, I find myself grabbing this to give my t-zone some extra coverage. Just love this stuff. Shop.

Maybelline FaceStudio Master Fix Setting + Perfecting Loose Powder
This is great for setting the face and feels super silky. I also find that it helps absorb oil more than other translucent powders that I've tried, and with a great price, you don't feel guilty baking away. Shop

NYX Matte Bronzer
This is a bold claim, but I really think this is my most favorite bronzer ever. That's right I said it, ever. It applies so smoothly and I love the medium shade on my skin tone. I use this product every day! Shop.

NYX Ombre Blush
I love blushes that offer more than one shade, and that's what you get with these NYX Ombre blushes. They're just beautiful colors with dimension and a great formula. Shop.

NYX Wonder Pencil
I'll admit this nude pencil isn't as pigmented as others I've tried, but I just love it for a subtle touch of nude on the waterline - it really brightens the eye without looking like a thick formula. Shop.

L'Oreal Voluminous Feline Mascara
This is just really my favorite drugstore mascara (so far!). I love the bristles on the wand - they're those rubber-feeling bristles that really allow you to coat the lashes. Shop.

NYX Intense Butter Gloss
This is always my favorite drugstore lipgloss - such a great formula that's not too thick or sticky but still good pigmentation! I especially love the shade Peanut Brittle. Shop. (P.S. Paired with their Nude Mechanical Lip Pencil is even better! - Shop.) Most NYX lip products are really just the best of the best.

L'Oreal True Match Lumi Liquid Glow Illuminator
Love putting a few drops of this stuff on my cheekbones for a subtle 'glow from within.' Shop.

Morphe Sponge
I used to love the Real Techniques sponge for foundation and concealer, but the last one picked up was definitely a different material than I'm used to and I was not a fan. (I'm being nice... I hated it more than anything...). However, thank the makeup heavens for Morphe because they saved me with this great sponge now sold at Ulta - great material, super bouncy, and blends creams so beautifully. Thank you Morphe! Shop.

Maybelline Facestudio Master Fix Wear Boosting Setting Spray Translucent
Another bold claim, but I'm pretty sure this Maybelline setting spray works just as well as my Urban Decay All Nighter. I just love it. Shop.

What drugstore finds did I miss?! Let me know :)

Aubrie's Updated Skincare Routine

Aubrie BlacktonComment

I recorded an instagram video showing all of the skincare products I use on a daily basis and since it was very quick and to the point I thought i'd go more in depth on here! All products will be linked below

Steps:

{At night I will first remove as much makeup as I can with a makeup wipe. These by Olay have been my new favorite. Not oily, fragrance free and inexpensive.}

  1. Cleanser: Dermalogica Special Cleaning Gel- I often switch back and forth between cleansers because I don't ever fall in love with just one but THIS....this has changed the cleanser game for me. The scent is very refreshing and it leaves my skin feeling super clean. A little bit goes a long way so you will definitely get your money's worth.
  2. Toner: Derma E Radiance Toner - Some toners i've tried in the past feel like they're stripping my skin and leave it feeling unhealthy. This one, as you can see in the name, restores my skin while removing any excess makeup/dirt. I feel like this step is necessary before going in with a moisturizer.
  3. Serum: Dermalogica Ultracalming Serum- This step has make a huge difference in the texture of my skin. It's not 100% necessary but if you're looking to take your skincare to the next level I would definitely recommend incorporating a serum at least once a day. I use this morning and night and it helps with moisturizing and calming my red skin.
  4. Exfoliater: Peter Thomas Roth Peeling Gel  - This stuff is gold. Whenever i'm feeling like I have a lot of dry skin or texture i'll massage this over my face and all the dead skin balls up and you can see your skin peeling off. Ok, sounds gross but just try it :) i also use the Simple exfoliate just to maintain smooth skin. I switch between these and exfoliate about 3 times per week.
  5. Moisturizers:
  6. Medical Skin Items:
I do use a tretinoin cream every other night and a lip treatment, both of which I purchased at my spa and are Obagi products. If you visit their site just enter your zip code and it will bring up a list of locations where you can purchase! These make a huge different in my skin and help prevent signs of aging.

Thank you so much for stopping by! Hope you enjoyed and if you have any questions, as always, please let us know!

My Top Rated Eyeliners (that are actually easy to use!)

Megan CrevierComment

I think it's fair to say most of us find that perfect wing as one of the most (if not THE most) difficult part of a complete make up look.

Finding an eyeliner that is easy to manipulate, applies smoothly, and doesn't completely break the bank is something I really struggled with when I first started to fall in love with makeup. I've tried so, soo many different products and found several of them were impossible to even create a straight line with - for me at least!

But I've also found a few that completely changed my makeup game. From sharp wings to simple classic liner, here are my favorite products & brushes!
Let me know if you guys also love any of these products, and please share your favorites with me as well!

The first three products are my secret weapon for the perfect wing:

Maybelline Eye Studio Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner

The BEST gel liner for any kind of look you'd like to achieve - here

Inglot Duraline

That Maybelline Gel Liner isn't complete without a drop of this stuff. Game. Changer. when it comes to smoothness of application - here

Ingot 42T Makeup Brush

The absolute best brush to use if you want the sharpest wing - here

ULTA Angled Eyeliner Brush

This is my all time favorite brush for blending out eyeliner or adding shadow to gel liner for more of a subtle liner look - here

Illamasqua Precision Ink Eyeliner

This is my second favorite eyeliner to create a sharp wing - it's by far the easiest point tip, liquid liner that I've ever worked with - here

NYX Professional Makeup Slide On Eye Pencil

This pencil glides on so easily, it's almost like a liquid liner in a pencil form - love it! - here

I've Found Your Next Ride or Die Mascara

Megan CrevierComment
Best Mascaras to buy

'What's the best mascara I can buy that's not too expensive?'

'I'm heading to Ulta & need a new mascara, what should I get?'

'Are you wearing false lashes?'

'Can you give me a recommendation for the best mascara?'

- No, I'm not wearing false lashes, and yes, I certainly have a recommendation!

These are questions I hear most often when friends and family ask me about eye makeup. Even my little-to-no-makeup wearing loved ones are on the hunt for their go-to mascara. While I do have naturally long lashes, I feel like I've found some holy grail products that really make my lashes pop. From drugstore to high-end, here are my top mascara recommendations (All direct, shoppable links to each product at the bottom of the post) -

Primer:

My absolute favorite lash primer is 'Little Black Primer' by Esteé Lauder. If you have a drugstore equivalent, PLEASE let me know!

Drugstore Options:

L'Oreal Voluminous Feline Mascara - this is a new one on the market as far and I know, and I've been absolutely loving it for the past month since I've been trying it out. Seriously, it gives me some mega volume.

L'Oreal Voluminous Original Mascara - truly a classic, you just can't go wrong with this oldie but goodie.

High End:

Tarte Tarteist Lash Paint Mascara - what really gets me about this product is its applicator - it allows you to easily coat each lash with a generous amount of product.

Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara - you hear about this one all the time for a reason. The fluffy applicator is just that great!

Esteé Lauder 'Sumptuous Extreme' Lash Multiplying Volume Mascara - the most expensive on the list. I received this in a holiday kit from Esteé, otherwise I probably wouldn't have purchased this on my own. However, it does make my list because from the first time I used it, I found myself grabbing it every.single.time. until it ran out. I just love the way it amplifies the lashes, but never seems to give the chunky, cakey look.

It Cosmetics Hello Lashes - last but not least, if you're looking for a mascara application that gives a nice boost to the lashes but looks rather natural, this is the mascara for you!

Let me know your favorite mascara so I can try it out, or if you love any of these as much as I do!

Thanks for the read, xoxo - meg.

What's the right foundation for your skin type?

Aubrie BlacktonComment

When it comes to purchasing foundation, finding the right formula that suits your skin can be a daunting task. There have been too many times where foundation swatches at the store look and feel great, but after a few wears I discover it doesn’t work for me. As many of you know, foundation can either make or break the rest of your makeup look. For every skin type, your face should look hydrated but not oily - everyone wants that healthy glow. Hopefully these tips and recommendations will lead you on your way to finding your perfect foundation!

  • Oily Skin: I’ve been “blessed” with oily skin. If you are oily you want to look for a matte foundation. Matte foundations don’t always mean they are going to suck your face dry of oil, they just work to balance your skins oils. Look for ingredients such as silica and glycerin which help absorb oil and keeps makeup from sinking into your pores. Also, a good primer such as the Murad skin mattifier, or Benefit Porefessional will help ensure that your makeup lasts all day. Some foundations I recommend for oily skin are:

Makeup Forever Mat Velvet (medium-full coverage)

Loreal Infalliable Pro-Matte (medium-full coverage)

Marc Jacobs Remarcable (full coverage)

  • Dry Skin: For those of you with dry skin you want to start off with a hydrating moisturizer and primer. Some recommendations for these are Becca’s Backlight Priming Filter and Makeup Forever’s hydrating primer. Some ingredients to look for in foundations are. If you have dry skin, you also want to avoid applying your foundation with a brush. Instead, opt for a damp sponge such as a beauty blender or the real techniques sponge. Some foundations I recommend for dry skin are:

Georgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation (medium-full coverage)

Nars All Day Luminous Weightless (full coverage)

Hourglass Illusion Hyaluronic Skin Tint (buildable coverage- also recommended for aging skin)

  • Combination Skin: If you have certain areas that are dryer than others, try applying a heavier moisturizer to these spots and follow with one of the foundations recommended for oily skin. You can alter the way a foundation wears by applying a primer underneath. So for dry areas apply a heavier moisturizer and a hydrating primer and for more oily areas such as the t-zone apply a lighter moisturizer. You can then follow with one of the recommended oily skin foundations. Some other recommendations for combination skin would be:

Urban Decay Naked Skin Foundation (demi-matte finish with buildable coverage)

Makeup Forever Ultra HD foundation (medium-full buildable coverage)

What foundations do you love for your skin type? We'd love to hear.

xoxo

Lifesaving Products for Early Mornings

Megan CrevierComment
beauty products for early mornings

I'm not exactly a morning person. The snooze button and I are best friends, and I can't even begin to function without a large coffee.

So, over the years, I've adopted a few products that help me out when I'm in a rush & make me look ready for the day, even if I'm not!

Eye Roller for Puffy Eyes

I usually suffer from puffy eyes - even if I've gotten plenty of sleep the night before. The Garnier Skin Renew Anti-Puff Eye Roller is AMAZING for this, and I've been using it for years. It's extremely refreshing for tired eyes.

A large paddle brush is the best for quickly applying product all over the face when you're in a rush. My favorite for this is the Real Techniques 100 Arched Powder Brush which I mentioned in our latest Favorites video. I use it to quickly bronze up the entire face!

Extra tip: make sure to use the flat side of the brush, rather than the tip, unless you're contouring :)

APPLY BRONZER ON THE TIP OF THE BRUSH TO CONTOUR

APPLY BRONZER ON THE TIP OF THE BRUSH TO CONTOUR

USE THE FLAT SIDE TO QUICKLY APPLY PRODUCT TO THE ENTIRE FACE

USE THE FLAT SIDE TO QUICKLY APPLY PRODUCT TO THE ENTIRE FACE

Another product I love that combats puffy eyes is the Estee Lauder Resilience Lift Firming/Sculpting Eye Cream. I pat it all over the eye area - it helps with bags and aging (yes!).

The Bare Minerals Concealer in the shade 'Well-Rested' is an eye brightener that works wonders! A quick brush of this stuff makes any tired eye look awake - but use it sparingly because this stuff is seriously BRIGHT!

MAC Prep + Prime Fix+  is a great morning pick me up - it's super refreshing, and helps your makeup stay put!

If you're like me and need a little extra help in the morning, try these products - they'll get you up and running!

Drugstore Favorites

beautyMegan CrevierComment

Get ready for a long one today, loves! We're completely breaking down our favorite drugstore beauty products. Everything from face to lips to eyes to brushes, we've got you covered. Let's jump right in, shall we?

Favorite Drugstore Makeup

Let's start with the face.

For foundation, L'oreal Infallible Pro-Matte is THE. BEST. Seriously, I haven't found a foundation that can top it. A life saver and best friend for anyone with an oily complexion.

There's a tight race between two concealers - both Maybelline. Their Instant Age Rewind is more of a lightweight, subtle coverage, but still looks lovely on the skin. Their Master Conceal is definitely heavier and offers fuller coverage. This one also works better as a highlight as well if that's what you seek in your concealer.

The Maybelline Fit me Matte+Poreless powder is a go-to for a setting powder all over the face. Again, this is great for an oily complexion to help keep the face matte and free from unwanted shine.

For blush, we've both been LOVING the Milani Baked Blush in the shade Luminoso. It's a perfectly subtle shade for all complexions and works with just about any look.

Finally, the NYX Highlight & Contour Pro Palette is pure perfection. The banana and highlight shades are great for setting concealer, and the darker shades for contouring under the cheekbones, the temples, the jawline, and the nose.

Favorite Drugstore Products Lovely&Luxe

On to eyes -

For eyeliner, Maybelline wins again. The Define-a-Line is a go-to for the upper lash line (personally, it's too creamy to use on the lower lash and tends to run). It also comes with a smudging sponge for blending. The shade soft black is great for a day-time or softer look, and ebony black is great for a night on the town.

For brown eyes: Using a smudged, dark brown liner on the lower lash and lower water line can really make the eyes pop. For this, I like the Maybelline Master Drama in the shade bold brown.

For a dramatic look, my favorite gel liner is Maybelline Eye Studio in blackest-black. Pair it with an angled liner brush to get your sharp cat-eye.

Once again, Maybelline Great Lash clear Brow Gel is great for keeping your brows in check all day long.

My ride or die drugstore mascara is L'oreal Voluminous Original in black. Enough said.

Favorite Drugstore Products lovelyandluxe

And as for lip products -

The BEST 'chap stick' is Vaseline Lip Therapy. It instantly quenches dry lips, and isn't addictive like most chapsticks are.

The e.l.f Lip Exfoliator is perfect for prepping the lips for lipstick. Bonus - it smells like coffee!

If you've ever watched our YouTube channel, you know how much we both adore NYX lip products. Their butter gloss is to die for. Some favorite shades: Tiramisu, Apple Strudel, Antwerp.

Lovelyandluxe drugstore favorites

Last but not least, brushes.

Powder: Real Techniques Powder Brush. Big, fluffy, and soft - need we say more?

Bronzer: EcoTools Domed Bronzer Brush. Its large size makes it easy to warm up the entire face.

Contour: Real Techniques Sculpting Brush. Basically contours for you with its perfect shape and density.

Blush: The e.l.f angled blush brush is the perfect shape for blushing the cheeks.

Setting: The e.l.f. small tapered brush is great for setting your concealer.

Concealer/Precision: The e.l.f flawless concealer brush is great for really getting in the under eye area. I typically use this for a brightening powder specifically under the eyes that I don't want to take down too far on the cheeks.

Highlight: Real Techniques Setting Brush

Aubrie's Skin Care Routine

Aubrie BlacktonComment

A while back, Meg shared her everyday skin care routine , check it out if you haven't already!

I have struggled with acne and problem skin for as long as I can remember. I’m so glad I’ve found the right products and routine for my skin type which is normal/combination. I will put a star next to the products I use every day and night. All products are linked.

Let’s get started!

Cleansers/Toner:

*Clarins Gentle Foaming Cleanser : I started using this a couple months ago as my everyday cleanser and fell in love. The creamy consistency and smell alone does it for me but on top of that my skin feels so clean and refreshed afterward. This is one of my favorite cleansers I’ve ever come across.

Cera-Ve Foaming Facial Cleanser : In my opinion, everyone should have a gentle, fragrance free cleanser in their collection. If your skin becomes irritated you want to steer clear of any chemicals and this cleanser is a great option.

Peter Thomas Roth FirmX Peeling Gel : I can’t say enough good things about this product. Some exfoliants are too harsh for me and this is the exact opposite. You start with a dry face and begin massaging this in the skin in circular motions. As soon as you start, you feel your dead skin rolling off your face. I use this twice a week. To justify the price, I’m going on 2 years with the same small bottle. AMAZING product.

*Neutrogena Pore Refining Toner : Meg and I both love this Neutrogena toner. On days when you feel like you need an extra product to get the dirt or makeup out of your pores this product is awesome. It doesn’t sting or have a bad fragrance like some other toners.

Day time Moisturizer/Sunscreen:

*Cera-Ve Moisturizing Lotion : The price for all of this product is amazing. Like all Cera-Ve products, this is fragrance free and non-irritating. I will use this on my skin first and then an SPF over top, which I talk about below.

*Clarins UV Plus 50 SPF : I haven’t been too conscious about sunscreen until my mom just discovered she had melanoma on her chest. I’ve been a freak about sunscreen ever since. This one is oil-free, very lightweight, and protects the skin from future aging. I apply this sunscreen daily, on top of my moisturizer.

Cera-Ve Facial Moisturizing Lotion SPF 30 : This is another great option for a moisturizer and SPF in one. I will use this on days when I’m in a rush and don’t feel like applying 2 products.

Night time:

I start off by taking off as much makeup as I can with a makeup remover wipe. I then use my Clarins Cleanser and then move onto moisturizer.

* Pro-active Plus Complexion Perfection Hydrator : For preventative measures, I like to apply this at night because it hydrates but also has a small amount of salicylic acid. It isn’t drying what-so-ever and my face feels amazing when I wake up.

Olay Regenerist Overnight Face Mask : When I feel like I need a little extra hydration, this overnight mask gets the job done.  It’s very hydrating and only a small amount is needed for the whole face and neck which makes this last a LONG time!

What are your favorite products for your skin-care routine? We’d love to hear!

XOXO

Summer Favorites & Essentials

skincare, beautyMegan CrevierComment

If you haven’t seen our summer favorites video here it is!

We know it was a little hard to see everything we talked about, so here are more descriptions and photos of the products.

Este Lauder Daywear Advanced Anti Oxidant Cream: This lightweight moisturizer contains an SPF of 25 and provides anti-aging properties through its anti-oxidant complex. It smells clean and feels fresh on the skin. If your skin tends to be more oily, be sure to try the oil-free option. It's great year round, but most importantly in the summer to protect your skin from sun damage.

Urban Decay Pore-Perfecting Complexion Primer Potion: For use after moisturizer and under make-up, this pore-perfecting primer helps makeup stay flawless throughout the day. This one in particular helps give a somewhat matte illusion. Both of these properties are important in the summer when it's hot a humid (especially in the T-zone) to prevent your makeup from running and settling into lines. This will help everything stay in place all day long, and provide a clean and airbrushed looking finish to the skin.

Photo: beautybay.com

Este-Lauder Day Wear BB Anti-Oxidant Beauty Benefit Cream: From the same line as the moisturizer talked about above, this BB cream offers many of the same beauty benefits. It provides a little coverage, but not full, which can be nice in the summer when you don't want a heavy foundation. It also includes 35 SPF, anti-oxidants, and moisturizing properties which benefit the skin and are, again, especially important in the summer. It feels very clean and fresh on the skin, perfect when you're looking for a little coverage but don't need a full face!

Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer SPF 20: This product is great for summer, again because it provides SPF, anti-oxidants, and moisture, keeping the skin healthy and protected. This lightweight formula evens out the skin, blurring fine lines, evening out dry patches, and giving the skin a pop of color for a healthy looking glow. Choose this one over Este-Lauder if you want more color and less coverage!

L'Oreal Paris Cosmetics Infallible Pro-Matte Foundation: This could be number one on our list of summer favorites (neck and neck with Champagne Pop, of course). This drugstore foundation gives incredible coverage, but never cakes up or settles into fine lines. The formula is breathable - light and refreshing on the skin. It says "matte," but it isn't overwhelmingly so - it still leaves the skin looking healthy and fresh (the back of the bottle actually refers to it as a "demi-matte"). Its most appealing quality is that it stays looking freshly applied all day long, even in heat in humidity, which is why we are so in love!

Sephora - Becca x Jaclyn Hill Shimmering Skin Perfector® Pressed - Champagne Pop: Cannot do without this this summer. Jaclyn Hill (beauty expert on Youtube) has collaborated with Becca Cosmetics to create the most beautiful summer highlight - Champagne Pop. Similar to their Opal highlight, but with more rose gold undertones, this highlight will be the perfect finishing touch to any makeup look this season and looks beautiful on all skin tones. Day or night, adding a touch of this to the cheek bones will illuminate your skin and enhance your summer glow. You can even add it under the brow, to the bridge of the nose, middle of the forehead, chin, and cupid's bow for an all over dewy look. If you haven't tried it yet, trust us, you won't regret it.

We're really into nudes and baby pinks summer for lips, so we've chosen two of our favorites for this list:

Givenchy Beauty Rouge Interdit Satin Lipstick - 3: Secret Pink-Colorle: This buttery formula applies smoothly to the lips and leaves them hydrated without settling into fine lines. Our favorite color - secret pink - is a light pink to give you just a pop on the lips, beautifully complimenting a summer glow. Aubrie is wearing this in our summer favorites video, so you can see how it looks applied. Not the mention, the packaging is to die for.

Photo: polyvore.com

MAC Cremesheen Lipstick - Creme D' Nude: This basic nude could not be more beautiful for this season. The nude lip on a bronzed face is one of our favorite summer looks. The formula is light on the lips, which we love.  We mentioned in the video that this is a limited edition product, but its not (thank goodness)! The packaging on the lipstick shown in our video is what's limited edition. Meg is wearing this one in the video if you'd like to see it applied.

Proganix Quench Leave-In Moisture, Coconut H2O + (Electrolytes): Hair care is also important when you're spending time in the sun, as it can quickly dry out the hair and leave it limp and lifeless. This product can be found at Target, Ulta, or drugstores. It is a combination of coconut water and coconut oil which is so nourishing to the hair but wont weigh it down. As you could imagine, it smells like coconuts, making it perfect for summer. Spray some on wet hair before spending the day in the sun, or as part of your every day hair routine to keep your hair looking and feeling healthy!

Drybar Mai Tai Spritzer Sea Salt Spray: This sea salt spray can be found a Sephora and is perfect after a day in the water or if you're looking to maintain tousled, just got home from the beach hair. It will give you volume and texture, and smells absolutely AMAZING. Leaving a matte yet soft finish, this product wont damage the hair, but will leave it looking perfectly messy.

Swim: We are loving one-piece swim suits this year. A chic one piece can be a great alternative to a bikini and give you something new if that's what you normally wear. In the video, Meg's suit is from Target and Aubrie's is L*Space

Meg's Skin Care Routine

skincare, beautyMegan CrevierComment

As I’ve mentioned before, I use to suffer with pretty severe cystic acne. After trying everything I could possibly think of, I’ve finally settled into a skin care routine that keeps my skin feeling fresh and looking healthy.

I switch back and forth between two different face washes:
Clean and Clear Advantage Acne Control Face Wash &
Neutrogena Oil Free Acne Wash Daily Scrub

There’s really no rhyme or reason I can give you as to why these are the products that cleared my skin and kept it that way, all I can tell you is that after many years of trial and error, this is what finally worked. I’ll usually use the Neutrogena in the morning and the Clean and Clear at night. At night, I always like to wash my face twice. I think of it as first getting all the make-up off, and then really getting into the pores to clean out all the dirt and oils from the day.

Additionally to clean my face, I use an Olay ProX Advanced Cleansing System. It’s very similar to the Clarisonic, but it’s about half the price. I only use this on my second round of face wash before bed about 3-4 times a week, I’ve found that every day can be too much, as I have fairly sensitive skin.

After cleansing, I use Neutrogena Pore Refining Toner - simply applying it to the entire face using a cotton ball. This gets any possible remaining make-up and leaves the skin feeling refreshed. I then apply Este Lauder Resilience Lift Firming/Sculpting Eye Cream (similar) around the eye area and Olay Regenerist Moisture Regenerating Serum to the forehead and corners of the mouth - both products are for anti-aging. If I have any problem areas, I simply apply rubbing alcohol to them using a q-tip.

In the morning after washing my face, I moisturize with Este Lauder Daywear Advanced Anti Oxidant cream (similar) underneath any makeup. I make sure to get the oil-free formula as I have oily skin already. This provides protection from the sun (important in Florida), anti-aging properties, and is great for moisturizing and preparing the face for a primer and makeup.

Please leave any questions in the comments :)

Splurge vs. Save: Makeup Brush Edition

Aubrie BlacktonComment

Nearing my mid-twenties, I decided it was time to throw out the old kabuki brush that I used to apply 3 different products to my face and re-design my makeup brush collection. In the midst of this journey that I’m sure some of you have experienced, I discovered makeup brushes are CRAZY expensive! To save you the hassle of comparing prices and brands, like I did, I’m going to give you the low-down on my must have makeup brushes and compare them to some pricier options.

First off…a foundation brush. You name a foundation applicator, I’ve used it. Hands down the best 2 brushes I’ve found to apply foundation are the Sigma F80 Flat Top Kabuki brush ($24) and the Morphe M439 Deluxe Buffer Brush ($14). Both of these allow you to really press foundation into the skin and give a flawless finish to your face without leaving it streaky. Mac makes very similar brushes but theirs are priced at $34 and up.

Next…the powder brush. I’m comparing the Mac and the Real Techniques powder brush. $10 compared to $46 and they do the exact same job. The Real Techniques brush ($10) is fluffy and perfect for applying face powder. I find my Real Techniques brushes at drug stores and Ulta.

Blush Brush…I stand by my $3 elf blush brush from Target. It’s soft and slightly tapered and perfect for applying blush!

All of my eyeshadow brushes are either Sigma or Morphe. They are professional quality and in my opinion they are better than Mac or any other high end line of brushes. These eye brushes are super soft and won’t leave your eyes feeling irritated. No one wants a rough eyeshadow brush! The quality of these brushes are amazing and will save you tons of money if you want to start a makeup brush collection that lasts.

Here are a list of my must have eye brushes:

Sigma E25 Blending Brush ($14): Great for all over eyeshadow and blending harsh lines

Bobbi Brown - For The Win

beautyMegan Crevier2 Comments

Throughout high school, I had terrible, terrible acne. And not just any acne, cystic acne that was painful and seemed impossible to get rid of. I tried absolutely everything - all kinds of makeup and face washes and acne products. I even got prescription creams and treatments from my dermatologist, and absolutely nothing worked. After much trial and error, I finally found a skincare routine that that helped clear my skin (which I'll write about later), but more importantly, I found a make-up that not only covered my acne, it helped clear it up – Bobbi Brown.

Their vitamin enriched face base was my absolute life saver as my moisturizer and underneath my make-up. It was so refreshing and felt like I was lathering my face in nutrients after drying it out with acne products. Their long wear even finish foundation was the perfect amount of coverage, but still let my skin breathe. It also has SPF 15, which was great for protecting my skin, as acne products can make you more sensitive to the sun. I loved their sheer finish pressed powder and bronzing powder. In fact these are the products I still can’t live without.

When I was seriously struggling with acne, I switched everything I used to Bobbi Brown, everything from concealer to blush to brushes. However, since my acne has since settled, I sometimes go to more affordable options for eye makeup and blush, etc., but I never skimp on my foundation and powders, as they are the most important in keeping your skin healthy and fresh.

If you are struggling with acne, or are just looking for a line that is great for your skin and looks and feels fabulous, I would seriously consider making a switch to these products!
